Fires Threaten Orangutan Habitat; Your Help Needed Now!

The Orangutan Foundation, which has a blog on Wildlife Direct, is in desperate need of simple equipment to prevent El Nina-driven fires from spreading into primary forest in Indonesia. Stephen Brend, the Orangutan Foundation’s Senior Conservationist in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, asks for donations of $2 to buy “a ‘beater,’ which consists of a bamboo pole with a cut car tire ‘tongue’ at the end. We need to buy lots of these beaters so that we are ready to tackle the fires. I am asking for a $2 donation from each reader. The beaters costs around $1.50 and the extra money will go towards buying hand sprayers which are used for dousing beaten, but still hot, embers.”

Wildlife Direct is undergoing some changes this week, but the Paypal donation interface works just fine. Please make a donation to help the Foundation save critical orangutan habitat. You can read more about their work on the blog and also donate from there.

PLEASE HELP.
